LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Sir,

COMMONWEALTH GAMES

The poor of Nigeria must be overjoyed that Glasgow is to stage the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Had the games gone to Abuja, Nigeria would have had to plunder their national treasury in order to finance the estimated £288m of the games. And costs would almost certainly have escalated in view of the endemic corruption to be found in that impoverished third world country.

The people of Scotland, on the other hand, can easily afford to pay £60 a head for a week of top class international sporting entertainment whilst the lessons learned by our incorruptible politicians and civil servants in the wake of the Parliament Building fiasco will hopefully ensure that everything runs to budget.

Sincerely,

John Eoin Douglas
