Dear Sir/Madam,

UNFAIR TO ATHEISTS

Once again the government is to give special treatment to organised religions by allowing faith schools in England to tailor their sex education lessons to their own beliefs.

Why should atheist parents who wish their children to be taught that homosexuality is an abominable life choice be forced to send their children to faith schools with the real risk that they have their minds polluted by some of the more undesireable teachings of these faiths?

Sincerely,

John Eoin Douglas

Dear Sir/Madam,

THE REAL COST OF ROAMING

The Ministry of Defence is to be applauded for embarking on the first steps to privatisation of RAF and Navy rescue services.

For far too long, people (most of them city dwellers) have been straying off our extensive network of paved roads in order to experience what they perceive to be the thrills of the countryside. Unfortunately, taxpayers are then expected, through the military budget, to pay for the inevitable rescues when they fall over a cliff, get stuck up a mountain or stub their big toe.

It is high time that these selfish individuals should have to pay for the full cost of their recovery and this privatisation means that day becomes ever closer.

Sincerely,

John Eoin Douglas

Dear Sir/Madam,

USE OUR FORCES FOR GOOD

The UK is currently squandering unaffordable billions waging war in countries in which we have no business being merely in order to curry favour with the USA. Yet our government seems to be totally unwilling to use the armed forces to further the legitimate interests of its own citizens.

If it is possible for the kidnapped British yacht couple, Paul and Rachel Chandler, to be visited by a doctor and a press photographer, it is surely not beyond the powers of our Special Forces to rescue them from their Somali captors.

Foreign Secretary David Miliband should hang his head in shame at his department's failure to free the Chandlers. He certainly cannot be seen as any sort of credible successor to Gordon Brown until such time as they are at liberty.

Sincerely,

John Eoin Douglas
