LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Sir,

Modern policing, we are oft told by Chief Constables lamenting lack of resources, is a matter of priorities.

What then are we to make of Lothian and Borders Police's decision to evict a blameless householder in order to tear their home apart in an attempt to obtain evidence that might connect Peter Tobin with the missing schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton who disappeared in 1991? Bearing in mind that 60 year old Tobin is currently serving a minimum sentence of 21 years for the murder of Angelika Kluk and will thankfully never set foot out of gaol, what possible justification is there for such squandering of valuable police resources? By now, Ms Hamilton's parents must surely be reconciled to the fact that they will never see their poor child alive.

Meanwhile, a colleague is still waiting for Edinburgh police to contact him to take details of a hit and run incident last week and we see violence in our streets every weekend to which the police claim they are unable to respond timeously due to lack of police officers.

Sincerely,

John Eoin Douglas
