LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Sir,
A FAITH BASED CURE FOR OUR FINANCIAL ILLS?
NOW that Britain has been refused financial help by Saudi Arabia, it is perhaps time to consider what might make the Saudis change their hearts and minds.
How about Britain converting to the Moslem faith? In our democratic society, this is not something which could be achieved by compulsion.
Nevertheless, were the Queen to announce her immediate conversion to Islam, it would send a signal to all her citizens and I feel sure that Moslems throughout the world would feel more charitable towards her country.
After all, it would not be the first time that a British monarch has changed their faith. And Her Majesty has already had good practice at exchanging one set of dogmata for another on her frequent travels between Windsor and Holyrood - from the beliefs of the Anglican Church of England to those of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.
As any theologian will tell you, the basic tenets of the Abrahamic Religions are little different. And any remaining doubts in Her Majesty's mind would soon be assuaged by the gratitude of Moslems everywhere.
