LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Sir,

Alan Clayton complains of a "crisis in our schools" and illustrates this with the spirited reaction of one of his pupils to his attempt to get her to remove her anorak.

Perhaps the crisis in our schools is as a result of little Hitlers like him and their morbid attachment to petty school rules which result in youngsters making the mistake of thinking that all teachers are like him and consequently showing no respect for any of his colleagues.

Perhaps, if Mr Clayton and his ilk actually taught what they were paid to teach and stopped playing the martinet for the sake of it, schools would provide a happier educational experience for all concerned.

Sincerely,

John Eoin Douglas
