Dear Sir,

Forth Crossing

News that the Forth Road Bridge is on its last legs and will soon need replacement provides the perfect opportunity for a Forth Tunnel. This would be totally hidden from view and would remove the constant roar of traffic that can be heard near the current bridge.

With judicious planning, it would almost certainly be possible to re-use much of the existing road structure so there need be little disturbance and the removed spoil could undoubtedly be useful elsewhere. The visual amenity of the area would also benefit greatly.

This is a genuine alternative which must be fully investigated by the Scottish Executive before any final decisions are made on a Forth Bridge replacement.
