SUITABLE EXPENSES
It is unfortunate that it is only current MPs whose expenses are being opened up to public inspection.
I would be particularly interested to peruse those of the former Independent MP Martin Bell. Perhaps, in view of his anti-sleaze campaigning, he would care to put these in the public domain?
The public has a right to know how much (if anything) we have paid for laundering his white suit!

Why does everybody seems surprised that Shadow Leader of the House of Commons Alan Duncan has spent so much public money on tending his garden?
Having seen the uphill lie of his land, I can assure you that gardening of the sort that this millionaire Tory enjoys does not come cheap. Whether we should be paying for it is another matter!

ID CARDS
Manchester seems an unlikely place for the introduction of ID Cards: the Government's long touted panacea for rising crime rates. Perhaps our Home Secretary has been prejudiced against this comparatively law abiding city by viewing too many episodes of the popular drama series "Shameless"?
In reality, it is Liverpool or Glasgow that would benefit most from their swift introduction.

We should learn more from other cultures and religions.
Clearly the avoidance of pigs practiced by adherents of Islam and Judaism will do much to protect them from the ravages of the H1N1 Swine Virus which will probably sweep through the Christian world unhindered.

Dear Sir,
WRONG EASTER MESSAGE
Undertaking a short perambulation on Easter Sunday, I was astounded to find the smashed and grubby remains of dozens of hard boiled eggs littering Calton Hill.
In this day and age, is it really ethical or sensible to teach young children (the remnants of whose egg rolling exploits I presume these to be) that it is OK to waste food? Starving people in the Third World would not understand such wanton waste and I certainly could not explain or justify it to them. I wonder if the parents of the youngsters concerned would feel themselves able so to do?

PENAL POLICY
Now that Parliament is to consider giving voting rights to inmates of UK gaols, it is perhaps time to consider what form any representation should take.
With the present prison population of the UK currently far exceeding the former electorate of the Universities Parliamentary Constituencies which were abolished in 1950, perhaps it might be best if Prison Parliamentary Constituencies were set up to deal with the needs of prisoners. Certainly, I cannot see many existing MPs wishing to take on a larger case load of constituents now that so much more time and care is going to be needed in filling in their expenses claim forms now that these are to be made public.

Dear Sir,
THANK YOU, DARLING!
As a member of the Nationwide, I'd like to thank the Chancellor for creating a potential future windfall for me by knocking down the Dunfermline Building Society to my society so cheaply having been freed of all toxic assets at public expense.
It may be unfortunate for members of the Dunfermline who will receive nothing and for those who lose jobs at the Dunfermline HQ. However, the latter should realise that they are being punished for their wilful election of a Liberal Democrat in exactly the same way that people in the Scottish Borders lost their railway following their election of David Steel in the 60's.
And this continued emasculation of the Scottish financial sector can only go to strengthen the Union by making Independence even less practical. A masterstroke from Mr Darling!
